Here are some great ways you can get involved in the Hattiesburg community this semester!
Ongoing Opportunities

Special Events
Each year The Children’s Center for Communication and Development at USM hosts The Children’s Center Classic, a 5k/10k/Fun-Run. The event uses 150 volunteers to help on race day with things like on-site registration, participant check-in, cheering on the race course, handing out refreshments, etc.
The race is February 17, 2018, and it starts on Pride Field. Registration begins at 7:30 am and the race is typically over by 12:00 pm. Volunteers can sign-up on the race website https://childrenscenterclassic.racesonline.com/. The deadline to receive a volunteer t-shirt is January 26. Contact race coordinator at c.turner@usm.edu if you have questions!
Extra Table
The mission at Extra Table is to end hunger and drive down obesity in Mississippi by providing food pantries and soup kitchens with new, healthy food in bulk to help feed those in need. They have quite a few events this semester and need your help! Contact Stacy Ahua at stacy@extratable.org or 601.467.1670 to volunteer. You could also get an organization you are a part of on campus to adopt an event!

Midtown Minion 5K: Thames Elementary
Thames is having a race on March 3, 2018. The proceeds will go to getting better equipment for their playground. They need volunteers on Saturday, March 3, from 7am-9:30am to help with handing out race packets, guiding runners along the course, and clean up after the race. – Floor monitors: Volunteers are in charge of making sure the students are in front of
their projects, assist parents, and answer any questions about the layout of the venue. They are needed at the beginning of the fair (8:30 a.m.) and will be needed throughout the fair. Lunch will be provided to all that volunteer.
