Trying to pack as much as we could into this trip, we were only in Yosemite for about 24 hours. But ask any student, and they will tell you that we saw and experienced just as much as if we had been there for a couple days. As soon as we arrived, we threw our bags in the lodge and hit the trails!
We hiked the Mist Trail, which began at an elevation of 4,000 feet and winded its way to the top of Vernal Falls.
Everyone in the group made it to the bridge that crossed the Merced River. This stop offered fabulous views of the falls. For those who continued on, the total length of the hike was 3 miles (round trip) with an elevation gain of 1,000 feet.
The last half mile or so consisted of steep granite steps, carved from the side of the mountain. Many students surprised themselves that they could make it all the way to the top of the falls! They were rewarded with breathtaking views!
After returning from the hike and a quick dinner, we went out on a short walk to star gaze. Who knew there were so many stars! It was awe inspiring to look up into the sky and take in the vastness of our universe!
